📖Our Story
In the heart of the Sundarbans, where rivers weave through remote villages and daily life is shaped by both nature's beauty and its challenges, a small group of friends shared a common dream — a dream of creating a better future for their community.
That dream gave birth to Harishpur Mahajati Sangha in 1966.
At that time, many villages in the South 24 Parganas region lacked access to quality education, safe drinking water, secure shelter, healthcare, and opportunities for women to become financially independent. Children often had limited opportunities to pursue their dreams, and families struggled with the challenges of poverty and isolation.
Refusing to accept these realities as permanent, the founders came together with a simple yet powerful belief: real change begins when communities unite to help one another.
What started as a small community initiative has grown into a dedicated organization working to transform lives across the Sundarban region. Over the years, Harishpur Mahajati Sangha has supported children through education, empowered women through skill development programs such as sewing machine training and computer education, improved access to safe drinking water, and helped families build a stronger foundation for a better future.
Today, our journey continues with the same spirit that inspired our founders more than five decades ago — a commitment to dignity, opportunity, and sustainable development for every individual, regardless of their background.
